Use rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth to thoroughly clean the tumbler surface. This removes oils and residue that can prevent vinyl from adhering properly.
Clean in the same direction (top to bottom) to avoid leaving streaks. Don't touch the surface after cleaning!
Open Cricut Design Space and create or upload your design. For tumblers, keep designs between 2-3 inches tall for best results.
Measure your tumbler's diameter and use the customize panel to ensure your design wraps properly.
Load your vinyl (shiny side down on a green mat) and select 'Vinyl' as your material. For intricate designs, use the 'More Pressure' setting.
Mirror your design if using HTV, but DON'T mirror for adhesive vinyl!
Use your weeding tool to remove the negative space. Start from the corners and work inward. Take your time with small details.
Use a light pad underneath your vinyl to see cut lines better.
Cut a piece of transfer tape slightly larger than your design. Apply it over your weeded vinyl, using a scraper to burnish firmly.
For stubborn designs, burnish from the back of the vinyl carrier sheet too.
Peel the transfer tape with vinyl attached. Hold your design up to the tumbler and position carefully—you only get one shot!
Use a rubber band around the tumbler as a guide line to keep your design straight.
Starting from the center, use your scraper to smooth the vinyl onto the curved surface. Work outward in small sections.
Make small relief cuts in the transfer tape (not the vinyl!) to help it conform to curves.
Slowly peel the transfer tape at a 45-degree angle. If any vinyl lifts, press the tape back down and burnish again.
Peel towards the design, not away from it. Warm stubborn vinyl with a heat gun.
Apply 2-3 thin coats of clear sealant for tumblers that will be hand-washed frequently. Let each coat dry completely.
Use a foam brush for smooth application. Avoid the lip area!
Let your tumbler cure for 24-48 hours before use. Your custom creation is ready!
Hand wash only for longest life. Top rack only if using dishwasher.
